There are two types of tests and they have to be passed in the following order:

bullet  Theory Test (including the Hazard perception test)
bullet  Practical Test

Theory Test

The theory test consist of two parts

bullet  Multiple Choice Questions
bullet  Hazard Perception

You must pass both parts to pass the theory test

Part 1 – Multiple Choice

Instructions and a practice session are provided before you start the test

The multiple choice questions will appear on a touch screen where you will have to select the correct answer by touching the screen

You will be asked 35 questions in 40 minutes. You can navigate between questions and ‘flag’ questions that you want to come back to later in the test.

The pass mark for the multiple choice part of the theory test is 30 out of 35.

After the multiple choice part you can choose to have a break of up to three minutes before the hazard perception part starts.

Part 2 – Hazard Perception

After a short break you will then be shown a tutorial video clip providing detailed instructions

The test is on a screen but you have to use a mouse and click when you see a hazard

14 clips featuring every day road scenes will be shown but each clip except one will have one developing hazard, the other showing two developing hazards

You will only have one chance to respond so you will have to be careful when to click.

The pass mark for the car and motorcycle hazard perception part of the theory test is 44 out of 75.
