Road Safety begins at home
At Beta-Drive we value Road Safety and is embedded within our ISO Qual+
teaching programme
Here are Beta-Drive's top 10 tips for Safe Driving:
1) Buckle up every trip……..every time
And make sure your passengers do, too. Seat belts are the most effective means
of reducing serious injuries and fatalities
2) Make it a habit to signal early
(Mirror-Signal-Manoeuvre routine)
In normal driving conditions you should signal 5 to 8 seconds before you turn or
change lanes to give drivers behind you adequate time to react. Remember to turn
signal off as well!
3) Size up the whole scene
Don't just look directly ahead of you. Look 10 to 12 seconds down the road for
any potential hazards
This will allow plenty of time to stop carefully in control and will help
prolong the life of you brakes
4) Use your headrests correctly
Correctly positioned headrests can reduce chance of head and neck injuries. All
it takes is 5 seconds to adjust.
5) Know how to use ABS brakes (Standard for all
Beta-Drive vehicles)
In an emergency keep your foot hard on the brake. You don't need to pump the
brakes.
ABS brakes are designed to stop the wheels from locking up so you don’t need to
do it manually.
6) Green is for GO…..but make sure it is clear to
go!
Make sure you check at the lights to see if it is clear to proceed. Don’t assume
other motorists will stop.
Police vehicles and emergency vehicles can also go through red lights.
7) Use your mirrors to reduce blind spots!
As a routine make sure that your right mirror shows the road behind and as
little of the car as possible. The left mirror should be adjusted similarly. The
interior mirror should show the frame of your rear window.
8) Stay Focused……take breaks at regular intervals
Many accidents happen when drivers let their eyes and minds wander.
On long journeys make sure you take a rest at a convenient and safe place
9) Do not use mobile phones or hands-free devices
whilst driving
Pull up at a safe spot to take the call. Studies have shown that drivers are
four times more likely to be involved in an accident when using a mobile phone.
Remember, it is also a criminal offence. Hands free devices also should not be
used as the conversation takes your mind off the road and the most important
task
10) Don't tail-gate. It won't get you to your
destination any faster
Use adequate distance. At 30mph you should have 3 car lengths gap.
Beta-Drive work alongside DIA and DSA to improve road safety awareness.
