* One "tell me" question

These are basic checks a driver should carry out to ensure the car is safe to drive

Examples of Show me / Tell me questions are:

Q1: Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil.
A: Please make sure the car engine is cold and parked on a level surface. Identify dipstick/oil level indicator, describe check of oil level against the minimum/maximum markers.
Q2: Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine coolant level and tell me how you would check that the engine has the correct level.
A: Identify high/low level markings on header tank (where fitted) or radiator filler cap, and describe how to top up to correct level.
Q3: Identify where the windscreen washer reservoir is and tell me how you would check the windscreen washer level.
A: Identify reservoir and explain how to check level. Check your car's manual to see how to do this.
Q4: Tell me how you would check that the brake lights are working on this car.
A: Operate brake pedal, make use of reflections in windows, garage doors etc, or ask someone to help.

Two from the following 5 manoeuvres may be tested:

bullet  You may be asked to do a Bay Park at the beginning of the test
bullet  Reversing manoeuvres may be tested
* reversing round a corner
* Turning in a road
* reverse parking

You may be asked to perform an emergency stop

You can make up to 15 minor driving faults and still pass the test (16 or more results in failure).

However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test.

If at any time your examiner considers you to be a danger to other road users your test will be stopped.
